Hers to Cherish

Hers To Cherish (Verdantia #3)
4 of 5 stars false
When Ramsey DeKieran, disgraced nobleman and accused murderer, was offered a pardon Ram knew there'd be a catch. The High Lord of Verdantia offered him a clean slate in exchange for the off-world rescue of a Verdantian noblewoman – a suicide mission that had already cost the lives of good men. The one redeeming feature was the assistance of the stunning captain of Verdantia’s elite mercenary team.
For Captain Steffania Rickard, assisting DeKieran in the rescue of a woman critical to the future of Verdantia would be difficult enough. The rouge tripped all her triggers – good and bad. Infinitely worse, to fit into the culture of Vxloncia, she must pose as Ram's sex slave. The sexually dominant Ramsey was nothing if not perceptive and Steffania doubts her carefully disguised and deeply hidden desires will remain concealed.
Their mission takes on new meaning when they unmask a heinous program of enslavement, long cloaked in secrecy. Together they must find a way to overcome their initial animosity and recover a woman vital to the future of their race. Together, they would have to bring a malicious entity to justice.
In the maelstrom of sex, savagery, domination and submission, Ram and Steffania will need all their wits and strength to survive.

Hers to Cherish is the third installment in the Verdantia series and my first venture into it. This book can definitely be read as a stand alone.
The story was fast paced and beautifully transitioned full of surprisingly deep and well developed characters. It was full of a unique world that holds your interest and immerses you in the details. I loved the twists and turns, the smoking hot sex, and the creativity that went into the world building. The chemistry is there in swarms between the main characters Ramsey and Steffania and it was a ride to watch them grow as characters. There is a very light BDSM element to the sex but nothing beyond fluffy play and a type of shibari.

"Our baby died on prom night, and nothing was ever the same again."
Corabelle doesn’t feel like any of the other college girls. On what should have been one of the happiest nights of her life, she and her boyfriend Gavin watched a nurse disconnect the ventilator from their seven-day-old baby. During the funeral two days later, Gavin walked out and never returned.
Since then, her life has been a spiral of disasters. The only thing that has helped is her ability to black out whenever the pain gets too hard to bear, a habit that has become an addiction.
When Gavin shows up in her astronomy class four years later, he is hell-bent on getting her back, insisting she forgive him. Corabelle knows she can’t resist the touch that fills the empty ache that has haunted her since he left. But if he learns what she has done, if he follows the trail back through her past, her secrets will destroy their love completely. And once again, she’ll lose the only person who always believed she was innocent.

"Our baby died on prom night, and nothing was ever the same again."
Gavin and Corabelle have a past that no one at their new school knows, and if they have anything to say about it things will stay that way. Both of them are looking for a new start at the college they dreamed of attending since they were children. However, after a tragic lost of a child that had signified all their hopes and dreams and going their separate ways, they never envisioned it to be together. Now they're faced with the question, is there such a thing as a second chance when two people have been through so much?
I knew this book was going to be filled with tears but I never expected something so beautiful. Gavin and Corabelle are some of the most touching characters you'll meet, realistic with their heartbreak palatable. The journey these two take leaves you glued to the pages. The writing is smooth and creative. The way the loss of their child is handled is written as only a mother that has gone through the heartbreak can express, raw laced with the sharp end of a knife. Pages will just fly by as you follow this young couple on their journey of healing and love.

 A fallen boxer.
A woman with a broken dream.
A competition…
He even makes me forget my name. One night was all it took, and I forgot everything and anything except the sexy fighter in the ring who sets my mind ablaze and my body on fire with wanting…
Remington Tate is the strongest, most confusing man I’ve ever met in my life.
He’s the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit, and I’m drawn to him as I’ve never been drawn to anything in my life. I forget who I am, what I want, with just one look from him. When he’s near, I need to remind myself that I am strong–but he is stronger. And now it’s my job to keep his body working like a perfect machine, his taut muscles primed and ready to break the bones of his next opponents . . .
But the one he’s most threatening to, now, is me.
I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations.
If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?

Review

****I received an arc of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ****
This isn't your typical girl meet boys story. Remington Tate is possessive, he's jealous, he's outrageously alpha and not afraid to go after what he wants. He's been kicked down by so many people in his life that he holds few in his heart. Kicked out of the professional ring, he's determined to make the best out of his position in the underground circuit where he's in line to be champion. It's during a fight that he spots her, Brooke Dumas. A girl who has had her hopes and dreams of becoming an Olympic sprinter dashed when she destroys her knee and has pursued a career in sports rehab. And of course all caught and critiqued on youtube. She's not a fan of violence, she's shy and wouldn't even be at the fight if not for her best friend dragging her out. That doesn't stop her from staring at the man in the ring. Handsome and sure of himself he has an aura that she's never felt or seen before, but when she's set up to meet at his hotel room she's surprised when she's offered a job instead of a hot night of steamy sex. With no real prospects in sight fresh out of school and the great things this chance can do for her career and reputation, she decides to take it. However, physical attraction isn't the hardest thing she has to fight when she's traveling with the group. Learning the real Remy that few get to see, Brooke finds she has to fight her feelings for a man who's more broken than she ever imagined, while Remy has to deal with emotions he's never had before in an already volatile mind.
Real was everything everyone's been raving all over Goodreads about. It's emotional and heartbreaking. Remy was way more complex than I ever gave him credit for in the beginning. I thought he was going to be a typical alpha showy character when in fact he had so many secrets that I never saw coming. Brooke is a strong character, not the kind that cowers easily and not afraid to go after what she wants. I loved that since Remy had a hard time expressing his emotions, Brooke and he developed the song choices where they would play songs for each other on their ipods while traveling. It added another layer to these characters and more emotion. I did get sick of hearing how "achy and swollen" Brooke was for Remy before he finally gave in and quit fighting their attraction. I can't wait for Mine, there is so much story left to tell!
